Blurb: Make Bookstore-Quality Books From Home

Category : Featured Reviews, One Week - One Room, books

My kitchen would like to thank the folks at Blurb for their incredible contribution to the clutter. I just had the opportunity to try out their bookmaking software called BookSmart and make a professional quality cookbook with some of my families favorite recipes, which up until now have been scattered on bits of paper here and there throughout our home. You can use Blurb to make any kind of book you think of – whether you are a blogger, cook, photographer, parent, traveler, poet, newlywed, aspiring fiction writer – anyone – you probably have something you’d like printed in a professional quality. Maybe your goal is to sell your book to the world. Maybe you just want a really nice quality wedding album or baby book. Regardless of your intent, Blurb can help you get there.

Some things that impressed me about Blurb the most were their flexible options to choose from while building your book and ordering it and the community they’ve created on their website. Whether you need technical support, inspiration or an audience to sell your books to, Blurb has you covered. And while you are building your book on BookSmart you will find yourself creatively in control of the entire process – from the size of your book, to the page count, to the layout – you are in charge. And yet, it’s easy. They’ve thought through every step of the way so that anyone can make a book from their home. I found their software incredibly easy to use and enjoyed the process of putting together our new family cookbook.

The pricing of the books varies depending on your needs. You can get it printed in softcover, hardcover or hardcover with image wrap (as opposed to a dust jacket, your images and text on the cover will be printed right on the cover) – plain paper or premium – and size options, too. Books start at $4.95 for a 5 x 8 inch, 20-40 page black and white text (perfect if you are not planning to use pictures at all) in softcover and go up to $169.95 for a large format landscape 13 x 11 inch, 440 page with all the fixings in the hardcover with image wrap. The book I ordered was their 7 x 7 inch 20-40 page book on premium paper, which cost just $14.95 for softcover. It’s a tiny little thing but perfect for my needs in a small apartment kitchen.

The book was delivered quickly and in perfect condition, making me a very happy camper cook. I highly recommend Blurb for all your bookmaking needs.

I love Blurb, I just wish they would allow you to import from Blogger again. I’d love to create a book about specific posts…
