Ready for some Sun Facts from Skin MD? Did you know…
Depending on what type of skin they have, people will have different reaction to sun radiation and different tanning patterns, as each skin type has its own self-protection time (period of time when a person can experience direct exposure to the sun with no damage to the skin). If you’re going to be in the sun for longer than that amount of time, you’ll want to protect your skin with sunscreen, a hat, etc.
There are four main skin types – which one are you?
- I Type – the skin always burns, never tans.
Can remain under the direct sunlight without any protection for 5-10 minutes. - II Type – the skin normally burns, sometimes tans.
Can remain under the direct sunlight without any protection for 10-20 minutes. - III Type – sometimes burns, normally tans.
Can remain under the direct sunlight without any protection for 20-30 minutes. - IV Type – rarely burns, always tans.
Can remain under the direct sunlight without any protection for 40 minutes.
Note: When sunbathing, keep in mind that the amount of UV radiation you get can be increased if the sunlight gets reflected from nearby surfaces. Especially good reflectors are white sand (reflects 20% of UV rays) and snow (over 80%). Even when the weather is cloudy, people still get 90% of UV radiation transmitted through a thin cloud layer and may get tanned and even burned. People, who lay in the sun while sunbathing receive 4 times more radiation than those who sunbathe while standing or walking.
The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) on your sunscreen indicates the amount of time you can stay in the sun after the sunscreen is applied. This time depends on the self-protection time of your skin as well as the SPF of your sunscreen. If you have the 1st type of the skin (see the list of skin types above), self-protection time for your skin is 10 minutes and the SPF of your sunscreen is 6, you can stay in the sun for a maximum of 60 minutes.
Skin MD has a whole line of great SPF 15 skincare products. I recently received their basic Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion & Sunscreen SPF15 which can be used on your face, hands & body. I love that the lotion doesn’t have that typical sunscreen smell, in fact I honestly can’t smell anything on the lotion at all. I also appreciated that a little lotion goes a long way, so the 4 oz bottle should last awhile. Still at $25 a bottle, I’ve relegated this to face only so I know I’ll have it for awhile. The rest of my body can get by on my other sunscreens, but I love how the Skin MD feels on my face – it quickly soaks into your skin, leaving it smooth and soft – no greasy residue. For an all over lotion, I think I’d prefer a higher SPF anyway, but as a daily facial SPF15 I loved it.

I wear sunscreen every single day. I have to because my skin is very sensitive and breaks out in an awful sun rash if I go without. I’m also careful to wear sunglasses. I don’t want to rush the aging process around my eyes!
Use it every day.
I am light skinned and freckly so I use sunscreen every time I walk out the door during warm months – my kids too!
I wear it on my face all the time, but only if I’m going to be in the sun for a while do I use it on my whole body. Thanks.
I always use Sunscreen when doing outdoor activities.
I use sunscreen infrequently. I am excited about this sunscreen because it sounds like it is odorless! I do not have any tips otherr than use sunscreen.

I’m in CA so I use it almost every day!
I dont burn easily, though you wouldnt know it because I am so fair. If I am just jotting out for an early morning walk or a trip to the store I dont apply sunscreen. However, If I plan on being out for more than an hour I always put some on. A little reminder to those who dont know, Lips are one of the leading places for skin cancer. So remember buy lipbalm with SPF of at least 15.
Angel’s last blog post..The difference in defensiveness according to the difference in age.
I only use it when i’m out in the sun for long periods of time.
I don’t use sunscreen as I should. When I start to burn my husband always puts the sunscreen on me.
I don’t have a sunscreen tip,but I do know that it should always be put on when you are outside.
I use a moisturizer with sunscreen on my face every day.
I often, but not always, use sunscreen. I would prefer not to wind up with skin cancer. I need to try a little harder to use it all the time. Thanks!
I use sunscreen anytime I’m going to be in the sun for longer than 20 minutes.

I use a face moisturizer with sunscreen daily, all year long. I use a regular sunscreen on my body when I am out in the sun in the summer.
i wear it once its warm but admit to being a slacker during the cold cloudy months.
I’m bad, I only put sunscreen on when I know I’ll be out in the sun all day long. I need to break that habit.
I have always used a moisturizer that has sunscreen in it, but I have recently been using sunscreen on my arms every day as well (when I plan out being outside). I like using a moisturizer that has sunscreen already in it because it saves time!

I spent last year in Southern California as a lifeguard, so I am very aware of the dangers from sun and heat, and use to apply sunscreen 3 times a day! I always make sure the kids I babysit wear it even if only going outside for 15 minutes. Best tip is to get a high-quality sunscreen that absorbs well; the gloppy, sloppy stuff is no good! Also: there are mini sunscreens that you attach to a lanyard or purse, I always kept one on my guardpack; highly recommended for those on-the-go!
I use sunscreen mostly in the spring and summer, every day. Thank you!
I use sunscreen once in a while.
I use sunscreen on my face, neck, and ears everyday since it is built into my lotion.
I use sunscreen on my face everyday. However, I don’t usually put on my arms and legs unless I plan on being outside for a while (I usually am stuck inside doing school work) which isn’t very often.

My moisturizer contains sunscreen, so I am protected daily. Slip-Slop-Slap reminds us to slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, and slap on a hat. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway!
i use sunscreen every day in the spring as well as summer because i can burn without realizing it. i stay out of the midday sun and always wear a hat outside.
I use sunscreen when I go for my daily walk and when I am working outdoors.
I dont use it as much as I should, But I do try to make sure my kids wear it when we go for long outings outside
I wear sunscreen all time time and re-apply often in addition to wearing a hat anytime I’m outdoors.
I use it on my face everyday but on the rest of my body only in t-shirt and shorts weather. I now try to re-apply everyday at lunchtime so I remember.
I use sunscreen almost every day, at least on my face. I do let my arms go to get some vitamin D, but apply sunscreen all over if going to be outside for more than 20 minutes, I burn easily. My best tip is to apply the sunscreen 15 minutes before heading outside to give it a chance to work.
I have sunscreen but I usually forget to wear it. I rarely get more than pink from the sun and that usually turns into a tan. I don’t deal with excessive heat very well so I usually avoid being out in mid-afternoon.
i dont wear it as often as i should..i usually wear a hat to protect my face
