I have been eyeing the Roomba ever since I read about them in my local newspaper. The Massachusetts based company iRobot created this robotic vacuum as a way to make house chores a little easier. I always imagined that the Roomba had to be programed to know each inch of your house. That you had to step by step get it all situated and programmed. So when I received the Roomba 530 (Fifth Generation Series) I was hesitant to take it out of the box to test as I thought I would need alot of time and effort to get it situated. Boy, was I wrong.
As you can tell in the video, I just pressed the clean button and decided to let the Roomba do it’s magic. I could not believe the amount of dirt it cleaned up. I tested the product in my parents living room since it is large and open without as much clutter as mine has. They vacuum almost daily, but it seems the Roomba picked up stuff in areas that the standard vacuum could not reach. I was amazed when it went directly into a toy stool for First Act drums and didn’t knock it over, it just spun and made it’s way around it. Now that’s magic, or if you are defining it truly… that’s robotics.
This product does so much, and then some. Some of it’s features are:
- Efficiently vacuums dirt, debris, pet hair, dust, allergens and more from carpets and hard floors
- Counter rotating Bristle Brush and Beater Brush work together like a dustpan and broom
- Sturdy Bristle Brush digs deep into carpet fibers to grab dirt, debris, pet hair and more
- Powerful vacuum sucks large and small debris into the large, bag-less bin
- Fine filter traps dust, pollen and tiny particulate inside the bin
- Cleans the whole floor, under and around furniture, into corners and along wall edges
- Detects dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them
- Spot Clean provides quick clean-up of spills and concentrated messes
- Automatically senses and avoids stairs and other drop-offs
- Simple operation—just press the Clean button and Roomba does the rest
At $299, the Roomba is not cheap. But it does the job right and saves you the time and effort so you can focus on your family rather than vacuuming. It is about half the noise as a standard vacuum as well so you can let it run and not worry about waking the children. The Roomba 530 gets a big thumbs up from this Momma.

Nice!! I always thought this would be super handy to have!

I think it is really tacky to cathect personal property. However, I have seen these Roombas for the last several years and I think they are just the best. I also did not realize the company was based in Mass. Enjoyed your review.
