Giveaway: Glade Scented Oil Candles
By Jen E @ mommablogsalot | November 30th, 2009 | Category: Featured Reviews, around the home | 42 commentsI’m not generally a “candle person.” I have been given a lot of candles as gifts over the years but I rarely use them. Mostly because I’m a teensy bit afraid of fires. But I recently had the opportunity to review the Glade Scented Oil Candles and for some reason I said yes. I’m glad I did.
We used our first scented oil candle on the night of my husband’s birthday. We used the limited-edition Bayberry Spice scented oil candle that Glade sent me. It comes in a round tin and you’ll find that the candle attached to the tin firmly because of a built in magnetic center bump on the tin (and the metal bottom of the candle). I loved that the candle held firm and placed in the wide tin, it wasn’t going anywhere. Once you light the candle it eventually melts into an oil liquid and then evaporates. When the oil is gone, the flame goes out on its own. It will burn for about two to three hours.
I enjoyed the Bayberry Spice’s scent a lot. My husband and I both noticed that we could “tune the scent out” as it wasn’t over powering like some scents can be. But the second we thought about it, we could clearly smell the candle and found the fragrance light and sweet.
That weekend I picked up a package of refills in the vanilla scent, one of my favorite scents for most candles, soaps and fragrances. We used it during our Thanksgiving dinner and the vanilla smelled just as good as the Bayberry although I found it even more mild than the Bayberry. The refills sell for about $3.49 for a pack of four refills. You can also buy decorative glass jars for the scented oil candles for $3.49.
My only complaint with these candles is that they appear to be a single use only candle and once you light it, you really have to just let it finish burning – so don’t plan to leave the house an hour after lighting it! You’ll want to make sure you’ve got a good three hours to enjoy the scent before you need to leave. But all in all, the whole process of using the candles is so easy that even me, a typically anti-candle person, enjoyed using them. I thought the magnetic base was genius and with two small children in the home a safety feature I immediately appreciated. And I’m looking forward to my next scented oil candle experience immensely. Maybe I’ll become a candle person after all.
I highly recommend the Glade Scented Oil Candles for your next holiday party or even your next “Must block the scent of that diaper pail!” emergency.

Bake a wheel of brie in puff pastry with some good fruit preserves and almond slivers. Serve with water crackers. People will ooh and ahh – it’s SO easy.
I always do a buffet of make-ahead finger foods so I don’t have to run in and out of the kitchen all night. I also like to take a big glass vase and fill it with white lights and ornaments. It’s so pretty.

My holiday tip is to relax and have lots of fun.
My tip is to get a massage at the end of a long hard shopping day!! Thanks for the chance.

I really don’t do a lot of holiday parties, usually family dinners. My best advice is to prepare as much of the menu as you can the day before and then delegate responsibilities the day of the event so you are not stressed out by trying to take on everything alone. If something goes wrong, don’t sweat it, it’s more about togetherness and fun not the food. Thanks for the giveaway!
My best tip…bring the “white trash toffee” treat. It is the best and is so incredibly yummy to make!
I like everyone to be happy and enjoy themselve. So, I set out a buffet with a variety of different foods.
I have a whole CD full of fun Christmas songs that my kids and I like that we put on and dance to while we make cookies and get dinner ready! It’s loads of fun and a great way to keep from getting stressed out. Thanks for the contest!
My favorite holiday soundtrack is Manhattan Transfer’s Christmas album.
I put on the Kenny G soundtrack when we have people over because it’s familiar (Christmas music) and relaxing.
SCENTED PINE CONES…SMELLS GRAT AND VERY FESTIVE
I love candles! But – when hosting a party, watch using strongly scented candles! They tend to overpower the aromas of the foods being served. Too many smells can spoil the atmosphere.
I love potluck style parties because you get to try a lot of fun foods.
My best tip for holiday parties: If someone offers to bring an appetizer or a side dish, by all means say yes to them. Not only will it cut down on the amount of cooking you have to do, it will also allow you the pleasure of perhaps trying a dish you might not have made.

I like to put messy snacks in cup cake papers to make it easy to grab and carry for guests. That way they can mingle and not have to fill up a whole plate or crowd the table.
I leave a few decorator canisters of cleaning wipes and also hand sanitizers nearby the food table for easy clean-ups and hygiene conscious guests.

I make mix cds of the best Christmas songs for all of my friends and family so that they too can have great holiday music to listen to at their homes.
It’s a mix of the standard classics, new renditions, funny, and even some for the kids.
I make a new mix cd every year and everyone always loves it and they ask me every year if I will be doing it again the next year.
It makes me feel really good to know that my mix cds are making other people happy during the holidays.
I think the best holiday soundtrack is Harry Connick Jr.’s “When My Heart Finds Christmas.” It’s so festive!
My best tip is to make as many of the appetizers as you can the day before, so you can focus on making everything perfect around your home for your party!

I have 2 tips! I always have to make plenty of extra cherry cheesecake or I will be killed and second, I always have a large variety of holiday music on hand. It always brings back memories for everyone. Thanks for the great giveaway!
