American Idol Recap: Top 12 Guys Perform
Posted by Jen E @ mommablogsalot on March 2nd 2011 in Family entertainment, Featured Reviews, music (3 Comments)I just finished watching the Top 12 guys perform on American Idol. I was both excited and disappointed to learn that American Idol is now doing online voting! I have been waiting for this for awhile now but was bummed because I was watching the DVRed episode the next day, too late to vote. Incentive to watch the girls perform live tonight, for sure!
Here are my 5 favorites guys:
- Scotty McCreery – I’m not a huge country music fan but I am SUCH a fan of Scotty. That deep voice still surprises me every time I hear it, but I love it. I find him so charming and his stage presence and consistency are fantastic – this boy has a lot of Star Power and I’m rooting for him like crazy!
- Brett Lowenstern – This boy is such a sweet heart and quite a character! I feel like every time he signs, I re-remember how talented he is. I don’t this this was his best performance but a good one for sure.
- James Durbin – This season’s rocker, this boy has got some major lungs and a lot of stage presence and energy. I love listening to him sing and watching him perform and I will be surprised and saddened if James doesn’t make it through.
- Paul McDonald – So retro, but so rocking! I feel like I’m transported to another place and time when Paul sings and I love it. I really like the wide variety of contestants this season and this is a voice I’m rooting for. I think this trend of voices reminiscent of yester year is becoming very popular, at least I hope so!
- Casey Abrams – Oh my god, what a character. This is a super star. He is so unassuming in appearance, but the second he takes the stage and starts to sing, you cannot help but love him. I can see him really making a name for himself and I hope he stays in the competition.
My wild card 6th vote would go to Tim Halperin for his amazing Beatles performance. I thought his performance this week was good, but not great and the judges seemed to agree, but I’d be thrilled to see him back for another week.
What did you think of the Top 12 guys? Who was your favorite performance last night?

I had my concerns about AI this season without Cowell but I have to admit that they have done a much better job of selecting talent this year.
[...] voted into the Top 10. I only said goodbye to two of the people in my list of favorites from the guys and girls (Brett and Rachel) which I think is pretty good odds. Nice to see at the moment that [...]
