Things I Plan to Do at BlogHer 2010

In just about 14 days I will be arriving in New York City to attend my first ever BlogHer conference. I have visited NYC in the past on day trips when I was a peppy little teenager. My high school’s music department would bring us music and theater lovers to the city twice a year to see a show on Broadway. It was always wonderful. The first ever musical I saw on Broadway was Les Miserables. It’s something that I will never forget. Although, my favorite musical I’ve seen was Rent in London – but that’s a whole ‘nother story in itself.

While we won’t have time to take in a show in the city I have many other plans. Some of the things I plan to do:

  • Grab hold of my friends and not let them go. Oh, I cannot wait to hug these friends of mine for the first time ever.
  • Visit the heart of NYC – Times Square – At night and do a little dance mid-street. Because I can!
  • Enjoy the Hilton New York City, because how often does a girl get to stay in a lavish hotel without children? For me… this is probably my third time in a hotel without my children around. The first by my very self. Thank goodness I have some amazing roomates.
  • Rock it out at some amazing parties! I’m currently planning to attend: Social Luxe, Peoples Party, Swanky, and Blogalicious.
  • Take a tour of the city with Kodak
  • Miss my husband and kids like crazy
  • And hopefully be one of four woman to win the BlogHer Sponsorships being given away by An Island Life and Barefoot Mommies from Energizer. And if I don’t win I do hope one of the amazing woman I know gets the chance!
  • And much more!

American Girl Doll Giveaway thanks to Shine On Now – CLOSED

I will be attending BlogHer this year sans sponsor, and I am more than excited. Yes, I am going to promote my blog. Yes, I am planning on promoting my brand. Yes, I’m going to network with some amazing people. But the real reason I am going? To help re-energize my life with a little help from my friends.  I’ve made strong connections with some fellow bloggers that I am so thankful to have.

We call ourselves the Skype sisters. We are a group of women who are Mothers, Wives, Daughters, Sisters and more. Many of these women will be attending BlogHer and I just know that meeting them in real life will help energize my soul and tighten our bonds even more. We have been through heart ache, birthdays, new babies, struggles, illness and love. That is one thing that never lacks with our friendship. Love. While we have never met in person we are constantly there for each other. I know if I ever need a laugh or a friend to lean on all I have to do is log onto my Skype and there they are. Of course they are also only a phone call away, day or night as well.

American Girl presents Shine On Now – We are an official Parent Partner

When I think of American Girl I remember the days when I was about my daughter’s age. I remember the love I had for those dolls. Samantha, she was my absolute favorite. I would flip through the catalog for weeks after it arrived in the mail. I treasured each moment I had with the dolls, their accessories, and also reading each book.

When American Girl contacted me to be part of their Parent Partner team I was thrilled. Not only to be teamed up with such a legendary company to me but to be part of their new Shine On Now program. This new program that was released on June 28th, 2010 is a charitable initiative bringing together the power of girls and helping the community. By bringing together the strength of girls nationwide American Girl will be giving away $1 million dollars in dolls, books, clothes, and money to four organizations:

  • Kids in Distressed Situation
  • National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions
  • National Wildlife Federation and
  • Save the Children

Girls can now sign up on the Shine On Now website to become official American Girl Ambassador. When you sign up as an official ambassador you can download a free tool kit to help the girl in your life be a strong member of the community. The kit will help with tips and ideas for fund-raising, volunteering and donating to the above listed organizations.

To help girls nationwide to be the best they can be American Girl is also launching a virtual campus called Innerstar University™. Innerstar University™ is a fun virtual world where you can take quizzes, play games, and other fun activities. By learning on American Girl’s virtual campus it helps girls learn confidence building skills and strength. This is the sort of learning that is important for me to have my daughter to see and understand.

In my life I have met some really extraordinary people that have found a special place in my heart. One of those people is my dear friend Christine. This amazing woman is a Mother to a large blended family, a hard worker, a soon to be grandmother and a fantastic  friend.  She is willing to do anything for anyone and does it whole heartedly.

About 11 months ago Christine went through a rough surgery and had her thyroid removed. Our small group of friends (lovingly called the Skype girls) watched her go through agony. Through ups and downs of pain. So when I found out she was picked as 1 of 15 finalists for the HP Express Your Style contest I couldn’t help but cheer and jump up and down for her.  If Christine gets enough Facebook votes (1 per person) she could win:

Marc is obsessed. He makes his own soda every single day thanks to the SodaStream. We absolutely adore Snorg Tees in our household. My husband loves to sport their unique t-shirts out in public all the time because he always gets a reaction. Sometimes the reaction is “huh?!” but that just makes it all the better, because we know the inside joke whether the reader does or not. When Snorg Tees decided to participate in our second annual Mommas March Mania I had a difficult time choosing which shirt to choose for my dear husband. So I put it on Facebook. The top three contenders were:

The first one (a Monty Python Reference) made me laugh out loud and I just knew Marc would swoon over it. So I practically ignored the other two options. But they were pretty fantastic themselves. Then I remembered Marc already had Contender #3.

Out of nowhere a new Contender popped up thanks to a Facebook suggestion by one certain Alex Suzzi.

Yes, folks, we had a winner! Marc is in love with his shirt. I love the color on his skin and I know it will look even better once he gets his summery tan that he naturally gets naturally no matter how much sun tan lotion he puts on. Of course the tees wash extremely well and hold up against tough stains. Needless to say it’s a Win-Win situation for all of us.
