One Week – One Room: Belkin Conserve Surge Protector

Category : Featured Reviews, around the home

I love items that help us conserve and protect.  When a product does multiple things for my household it is always a winner. The Belkin Conserve Surge Protector is an 11 out of a perfect 10. It provided us with a standard surge protector in case a storm hit, a conserve feature which allows you to conserve energy with a remote switch, save energy (and money), and make a point with my children.

Conserve Energy, Easily

The surge protector has a remote switch that allows you to easily eliminate standby power which can be very wasteful. Overall this can help you lower the use of energy in your household, cut energy costs, and lower your carbon footprint.

Switch On. Switch Off

This was by far the best feature of the Belkin Conserve Surge Protector it has eight outlets which are all surge-protected. Out of the eight, six of the outlets have a switchable feature (two are always on).  What this means is that you can plug in the items you don’t use as much in the switchable outlets – such as the DVD Player, Wii, a lamp and more – and they can easily be switched off when not in use.  For the two outlets that consistently stay on you can plug in the low flow electronics you may have – such as a DVR or clock.

Show Them Who is Boss

I will admit this is great way to show your children that TV time is done. When they are in trouble, or it is time to focus on something else you can easily switch off the tv on the surge protector. Then they won’t be able to turn on the electronic, especially if you keep the protector up high.

At $49.99 it is an “investment” for my household. But the long term bill cutting, electronic saving, and overall useage is worth the cost. What do you do in your house to conserve energy and cut costs?

Dollar Savvy Cash Contest

Category : Featured Reviews

untitledDollar Savvy is a great new money saving website from RDA that’s slogan declares “Find & Share Your Dollar Savvy Tips.” With the crumbling economy I know everyone around me is cutting corners in every way possible. So those little tips and tricks that others use can come in handy for us, well Dollar Savvy has got those for you.

Some of my favorite tips are:

If you don’t want your bathroom or kitchen to smell like a “meadow” or a “freshly baked apple pie,” (unless you’ve just baked one) but you do want to minimize or neutralize odor, make a homemade air freshener by combining 1 tablespoon baking soda with 1 tablespoon vinegar in a small misting spray bottle. When the foaming stops, add a cup of water. Shake well to combine, and spray as needed in kitchen or bath. (Make a fresh bottle every two weeks for best results.)

And

To keep grilled fish from drying out, wrap whole fish or fillets in strips of smoked bacon. The bacon also enhances the smoky aromas of grilled fish.

The second tip adds my two favorite things together. Fish and bacon. I’m in heaven just thinking about it! I will certainly be trying that soon. Dollar Savvy is running a fantastic cash giveaway for great tips just like those. All you have to do is answer their “Cool Cash Question” with your very own tip. See the contest guidelines below for more information and don’t forget to check out Dollar Savvy!
